Shawna Yang is a Taiwanese jazz musician, her principal instruments are saxophones, flute, and piano. She graduated from National Taipei Art University, and majored in Jazz Performance in Berklee College of Music in Boston. Shawna plays an important role in Taiwan Jazz Scene. As the sax player in Metamorphosis Jazz Band, which is a long-life Taiwanese Jazz Band, and the lead alto sax player in Taipei Jazz Orchestra, She performs in major live houses in Taipei and several music festivals in Taiwan. She also directs the Riot Jazz Orchestra of National Taiwan University and leads her own Jazz Quartet.
Her second solo album “Simple Life” recorded in New York has published in 2015 June, and was nominated for the best musician, best jazz single and best Jazz Album in 2015 Golden Music Awards in Taiwan. In 2016, “Simple Life” was nominated for the best instrumental album, best instrumental composition, best producer of instrumental album, best sound engineer of instrumental album and then won the best instrumental album in 27th Golden Melody Awards, which is the most famous award in Taiwan and Chinese music scene.
As a jazz artist, Shawna always tried to play with many people as she can in different musical styles. She played with some great musicians like Alex Sipiagin, Eric Richards, Woody Witt, Eric Marienthal, Paul Haar, Krzysztof Urbanski, and Simon Barker. Shawna also has toured in Tokyo, Osaka, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Macao, and Jarkarta with Japanese and Taiwanese jazz musicians.
She currently endorses for Jazz Saxophones made by Antigua. She is also an assistant professor in Chung-Yuan University and National Tunghua University.
